B-17 #17

With a cruising speed of 150 mph and a range of over 1600 nautical miles, the American-made B-17 is known as the Queen of Bombers.

The B-17 is best known for not needing a fighter escort for her missions, often conducted at too great a range for smaller planes to keep up. She defends herself and her comrades in formation with her 13 50-calibre Browning machine guns, and even shot to pieces, can be relied upon to make it home. She may have three engines out and her tail fin shot off, but as long as she has a wing and a prayer, she'll see her home base again. Even if she has no landing gear and has to crash-land on her belly, she won't go down until the mission's done.
